World Peace Myth

Hello Huldah,

I would like to know if we are ever going to see world peace. We are told to pray for it but we seem to be getting farther away from it all the time. To say "pray for peace" sounds so empty to me. Am I just being a pessimist?

Dear Caren,

Your instincts are correct. We will not be seeing world peace in this lifetime and there are many scriptures to support it.

Jesus says of the end times in Matt. 24:6-14:
"You will be hearing of wars and rumors of wars. See that you are not frightened, for those things must take place, but that is not yet the end. For nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom, and in various places there will be famines and earthquakes. But all these things are merely the beginning of birth pangs. Then they will deliver you to tribulation, and will kill you, and you will be hated by all nations because of My name. At that time many will fall away and will betray one another and hate one another. Many false prophets will arise and will mislead many. Because lawlessness is increased, most people's love will grow cold. But the one who endures to the end, he will be saved. This gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in the whole world as a testimony to all the nations, and then the end will come."
It is clear that things are to become worse before Christ returns to judge the evil deeds of men.

However, for those who place their trust in Christ in this lifetime we have these promises:

Rev 21:4 "...and He will wipe away every tear from their eyes; and there will no longer be any death; there will no longer be any mourning, or crying, or pain; the first things have passed away."
John 14:1-3 "Do not let your heart be troubled; believe in God, believe also in Me. In My Father's house are many dwelling places; if it were not so, I would have told you; for I go to prepare a place for you. If I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself, that where I am, there you may be also."
Thanks Caren.
